Answers to the "What's My Injury" Poll
I am new to embedding a poll into my blog entry, and I must have done something wrong, because it is not allowing you to answer all the questions from the way I set it up. I'm sure there's a right way to do it, and hopefully if I ever try it again, I will know what to do. Anyway, I thought I would share the answers early so that anyone frustrated with the process would be satiated.
1. Who pinched three fingers in a trash can trying not to touch it while throwing garbage away? - Robin
2. Who suffered bruises to their elbow, thigh, rib, and abdominal areas from a fall on a rock during a snowy hike? - Ryan
3. Who suffered bruises to their shin after slipping off the boardwalk during the snowy hike? - Ryan
4. Who suffered scrapes to the forearm and knee from sliding down a rocky slope while transporting Andrew on a slippery snowy hike? - Chris
5. Who skinned their knee after falling up the stairs in one of the hotels we stayed in? Hint: This person was doing laundry late at night, and should have been taking the elevator. - Robin (I got spooked and tried to hurry)
6. Who suffered a skinned knee from falling on the boardwalk during the Trail of the Cedars hike? - Andrew
7. Who bit their tongue while being transported on Chris' shoulders (bumped chin on Dad's head) on the Swiftcurrent Lake Trail? - Andrew
Bonus: Ryan fell off the dock into Big Sandy Lake.

Vacation 2007 Post #5: A couple of Pictures
I don't want to bore you with too many pictures, but I couldn't resist sharing three - all of which are from our time in Glacier National Park.
Saint Mary Lake in the background
Baring Falls
THE snowy hike afore mentioned in the quiz - site of at least two of the family's injuries.
Speaking of - I forgot that one of our family fell into Big Sandy Lake, McGregor, Minnesota. If I had remembered, I would have added it to the poll in Vacation Post #1. Bonus if you guess who. No fair if you were there!
I will post the answers for the poll questions and this bonus question, as well by the end of this week. I'm having fun seeing who you are voting for!

July 21st, At Last!
Harry Potter Day finally arrived! Steven reread Books 2 through 6 in anticipation of the 7th book being released yesterday.
Chris had preordered the book from Amazon, so it would be delivered yesterday. When I heard the mail lady honk her horn in our driveway (what she does when she's got a package), I sent Steven out to get the mail. Needless to say, he was pretty excited. When he finally put the book down last night, he was on page 387.

Basketball Camp
Steven attended the Rockford All-Star Basketball camp the last week in June. It was an all-day camp every day at Jefferson High School. This is the second year that he has attended this camp. Both years, he has only known two people there - one is his friend, and one is his friend's sister. I think he enjoyed it, and we had fun watching him perform drills with his group on the last day. Here are some photos:
Backtrack to Early June 2007
Girls Quilt Show Weekend
Early in June, my mother-in-law, Deb, and I traveled to Ohio to take Grandma Donna (AKA Nonna Donna) to a quilt show in Columbus. There were 7 of us in all - Grandma, Deb (daughter), Neci (daughter), Michelle (granddaughter), Tonia (granddaughter's friend), Cheryl (granddaughter-in-law), and me (granddaughter-in-law). We had a blast - there was a lot of laughing, making fun of others, making fun of ourselves, embarrassing ourselves and others, laughing, eating, quilt viewing, shopping, and more laughing. We are three generations of women that get together and have a blast. Whenever we have the opportunity to be together, we try to go shopping as a group. We were missing one granddaughter and one daughter-in-law who usually accompany us, but most of the usual suspects/group was intact.
Anyone who knows me, knows that I freeze in air conditioning. Well, Cheryl does too, and she was smart enough to bring extra blankets to the hotel room. Thank you, Cheryl! Michelle commented that next time we did this, she and Tonia would room with the "Hot Flash Twins" (Deb & Neci), and Cheryl and I could room with Grandma. Works for me!

Vacation 2007 Post #4: Wildlife Spotted
We saw many different animals in the different places we visited.
I'm thinking that I need to give you a synopsis of the places that we went:
- We started at Pa & Grandma's home on Big Sandy Lake in McGregor, MN.
- Next stop was Bismarck, ND
- Dickinson, ND - Dakota Dinosaur Museum
- Mandan, ND - Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park
- Medora, ND - Theodore Roosevelt National Park
- Great Falls, Montana - Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center
- Glacier National Park - Montana
- Deer Lodge, Montana - Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site
- Yellowstone National Park
- Cody, WY - Buffalo Bill Historical Center
- Sheridan, WY
- Devils Tower National Monument
- Rapid City, SD - Mount Rushmore National Memorial
- Sioux Falls, SD - really cool pool area with pirate ship
- HOME sweet HOME
butterfly, robin, prairie dogs, bull snake, horse, prong horn antelope, cow/cattle, geese, wild horses, mule deer, big horn sheep, squirrels, black bears, mountain goats, spiders, flies, ants, long horn cattle, cats, hereford cattle, white tailed deer, tiger striped butterfly, bald eagle, chipmunk, yellow jacket, bumblebee, elk - female, bull elk, grasshoppers, bison, and domestic sheep.
As we were going over the mountain pass between Cody and Sheridan, Wyoming (at dusk), we encountered 46 mule deer around various turns and bends. I was the lookout girl, but Chris usually saw them before I did. So much for being "lookout girl." Chris was grateful to reach Sheridan safely!
Vacation 2007 Post #3: License Plate Game
Chris suggested that we have the kids play the license plate game - see how many states they could find before the end of the trip. I got a little too into it, and had to back off on more than one occasion when I found a plate, but they weren't paying attention. We did help them out at Mt Rushmore, since it was one of our last opportunities to have access to lots of different cars. The only states the boys didn't find were Hawaii, Mississippi, and Delaware. After we had returned the rental car, and were on our way back home, we saw a Delaware plate, but we couldn't count it - the trip was officially over when we turned the car in. In addition to 47 states, and the District of Columbia, we found Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and British Columbia.

Ryan: Before
Ryan: After
Andrew: Before
Andrew: After
Just so you know - there are no pictures of Steven, because he already had a buzz cut, making his transformation not nearly as dramatic (or traumatic to me, in Andrew's case) as Ryan's and Andrew's were.

Vacation 2007 Post #2: Funny Quotes
Andrew: "A tree fell down in the water?" - Andrew commented frequently on trees that had naturally fallen in bodies of water. He was heard commenting on trees that had fallen in the forest, as well.
Andrew: "I want up shoulders, Daddy." - Sometimes uttered before even getting out of the car.
Andrew: "That horse poops?" - In reference to ordinary rocks after having hiked on a trail with horse manure present.
Andrew: "No, I'm watching Cars!" - It was Ryan's turn to pick a movie, and he had chosen Star Wars - to which Andrew responded, "No, I'm watching Cars!"
Steven: "How about Burger King?"
Ryan: "Taco Bell?"
Andrew: "Cake!"
The above exchange took place upon arriving at our destination late at night, not having had supper yet, and searching for a restaurant that was still open.
Andrew: "Where's my shlip shlops?"
The most often heard quote was from Ryan: "I'm OK." - after tripping on a rock or other obstacle on the trail - did I mention this was frequently heard?
Vacation 2007 Post #1: What's My Injury?
What's My Injury?
We just returned from a very fun vacation. It was safe from any major disasters, but a few of us suffered minor injuries. Can you match the injury to the correct person? Hint: only one of us escaped injury. I will post the answers soon.
