"Mom, Can We Take a Silly Picture?"

In order to get Steven, Ryan, and Andrew to cooperate for a nice "after haircut" picture, I agreed to let them get silly if they gave me a good picture first. So here's their silly pictures...I couldn't pick just one, so I'm posting them all.

Haircut Night

Chris has been hinting for several days that he needed a haircut. I don't know what it is, but I hate giving haircuts. I think it's the clean-up that I dread. It just makes a big mess. So when I give one haircut, I usually try to give everyone a haircut at the same time - then I only have to clean up once! So all four of my men got haircuts tonight. Look at my handsome little men...

A New Way To Do Lunch

...Conversations with Kelly and Ellen on WRHL 1060 AM...

This is my favorite radio show - it's on Monday through Thursday from 1-2pm. I have my cell phone alarm set to go off on those days to remind me to turn their show on. I'm always bummed when I'm not home or close to a computer to be able to listen. Wednesdays are their "Fabulous Food Day" and it's always a fun hour. The show is exactly what the title implies: conversations with Kelly and Ellen. If you can't get 1060 AM on your radio dial, you can go on-line to www.wrhl.net and click on "Listen to WRHL now."

Update on Andrew

Many of you have called or e-mailed your concern for Andrew. I wanted to let you all know that Andrew started out kind of slow this morning, but is doing much better this afternoon. He's walking/running around - maybe not 100%, but getting there. Thank you so much for your care and concern! We feel loved!

I was thinking about the incident this morning, and it occurred to me that maybe he tried to jump off of Snoopy? Whatever the case, he doesn't have the ability to communicate well enough to let us know what happened exactly. It will just have to remain one among many of the mysteries of parenting!

A Trip Down Memory Lane

As I mentioned in a post earlier this week, we attended a funeral for my Great-Aunt Stella on Tuesday in Green Bay, WI. It was a lovely funeral. I loved learning things about her, and what she was like in her everyday dealings. She was truly assured of her salvation and was looking forward to meeting Jesus as she entered heaven.

We left for the funeral on Monday afternoon, shortly after the boys got home from school. The boys and I drove to Janesville, and left my van in Chris' work parking lot. We then drove on to Oshkosh to stay for the night.

Oh the memories that Oshkosh/Neenah/Appleton brings back:

November 1997. Steven was five months old. Chris started a new job with Greenbrier & Russel - a consulting firm. He trained for 2+ months in the office, awaiting his first assignment. That first assignment would take him to Kimberly-Clark located in Neenah, WI, which was a two hour drive from where we were living in the Milwaukee area. He worked 4 longer days a week, had Fridays off, and received a per diem to stay in a hotel and cover his meals. If I remember correctly: he would stay overnight one night, come home one night, and Steven and I would travel up north to stay with him one night. It was a fun and adventure-filled time in our family's history. We were so portable back then.

Whenever we have the opportunity to travel that way, the memories just flood in:
-Howard Johnson Hotel and swimming pool
-CiniMinis at Burger King
-Steven's first taste of Taco Bell
-Meeting Kristin, John, and Nick (John was doing the same thing Chris was, but for a different company)
-Meeting Tim, Roxanne, and their boys (Chris worked with Tim)
-Fox River Mall in Appleton
-The nice people at the Sears Portrait studio at the Fox River Mall
-Prime Outlet Mall of Oshkosh
-Road Star Inn of Appleton
-Accents Craft Store - within walking distance of the Road Star Inn- starting my scrapbooking habit (er, I mean hobby)
-Fried cheese curds at Tom's Drive-In in Neenah
-Twin City Motel (a place Chris stayed at by himself)
-Colonial Inn with the swimming pool in the basement that was really cold (this was another one of the places Chris stayed at by himself).

Fun memories to be sure - it marks an era of our life together that is gone, but definitely not forgotten. Thanks for indulging my trip down memory lane!

A Change In Plans

I had a meeting I was going to attend today at 12:30. Shortly beforehand, I was getting the boys' lunch ready so that Chris wouldn't have to worry about it, since he has been working all day on an implementation for work. Anyway, I was showing the boys a really cool stretch limo that was parked in front of one of our neighbor's house; and next thing I knew, Andrew was laying on the floor in the living room, crying. It appeared that he had tripped over our very large stuffed Snoopy (the one that he gets his annual birthday picture taken with). Following that incident, he refused to put weight on his left leg. Chris and I tried to figure out what to do, and where to take him that would be covered by insurance. None of the phone numbers on the back of our insurance card reached a live person, we weren't getting any answers on-line, and Chris was falling farther behind on his work the longer we looked into it. I would have loved to take Andrew to the Physicians Immediate Care that is located right by our new church building, but we opted for the sure bet of running him up to Convenience Care at the Beloit Clinic. Chris stayed home and continued to work, which meant that I could leave Steven and Ryan with him.

Once we arrived at the clinic, Andrew was examined and x-rayed. It was determined that nothing was broken. So we left, and went to Wal-Mart to buy some ibuprofen, which, by the way, is not available in chewable form - chewables would have been nice, because Andrew refused to drink the liquid out of the little cup. We left the house in such a rush, that I had forgotten his cup of milk, into which I could have slipped the medicine.

Anyway, we are back home with a little boy that still will not walk. Hopefully a good night's sleep will do him wonders. I was able to sneak some ibuprofen into the milk that he drank after his nap. I'll have to sneak in another dose before he goes to bed tonight.

The picture is of Andrew laying on the x-ray table.

Arctic Circle Revisited AGAIN!

April in Illinois...Hopefully this is the last of our cold weather, and soon it will be on its way to a warm spring! Last month was something like the sixth warmest March on record, which makes snow in April harder to take. But take it we will, since it is God that has control over the weather and not us!

Latest Family Picture

This is for Aunt Neci, particularly, but it is our latest family picture. We attended a funeral on Tuesday in Green Bay, so we were all dressed up. I missed an opportunity on Easter to take a family picture, so I made sure I got one when I had the chance!

A Trip to Madison

Andrew had a check-up on March 22, 2007 - a Thursday as usual, since that's the day the orthopedic department at UW Madison Hospital sees clubfoot patients. It went great. Dr. Nemeth has been really pleased with Andrew's progress the last two visits, and has said both times that he should be able to stop wearing the Denis-Browne bar and brace shoes when he turns four. That is so exciting for me! We have to go back in September, and hopefully then he will tell us the same thing again. I am including some pictures of the sights we see when we visit the hospital. I didn't get a picture of my favorite restaurant (Noodles & Co) where I eat when I go to Madison. I was in a hurry to get home, because my mom had gotten the older boys off the bus, and she needed me to get home, because she had to go somewhere. I also realized after I got home that there is a new Trader Joe's open in Madison, which I had totally forgotten about. I will have to plan my trip better for September so that I can hit both Noodles & Trader Joe's (and perhaps even the Scrapbook Superstore that's located there).

Just a quick explanation of the pictures: the first two are from the parking structure; the third picture is of our entrance; and numbers four and five are of our route to the orthopedic clinic. I had wanted to take a picture of Andrew with Dr. Nemeth, but his nap was all messed up and he was a little cranky - so we skipped that photo opportunity.
